The painted car bodies are being produced at Stadler’s plant in Szolnok, Hungary, and transported to Siedlce, Poland, where the vehicles are being completed.
The order represents Hungary’s first procurement of new InterCity multiple units in around 30 years. The first trains are expected to arrive in Hungary by the end of 2026 for domestic testing and approval.
Testing is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and will take place in parallel in Romania, Czechia and Hungary.
The five-car, dual-system electric units will have a maximum speed of 160 km/h and will be approved for operation in Hungary and Austria. GYSEV plans to deploy them on InterCity services linking Sopron and Szombathely with Budapest.
The units are expected to enter passenger service gradually from 2027, with the full fleet scheduled to be operational by summer 2028. GYSEV currently operates 20 FLIRT units, while Hungarian operator MÁV has 123.
