This event signifies the first instance in over three decades that a train has been manufactured in Western Australia, a process undertaken by Alstom at the METRONET facility in Perth.

This development follows the 2019 agreement between the Western Australian Government and Alstom, involving an €800 million (AUD$1.3 billion) contract for the supply of 252 railcars, encompassing 41 six-car electric trains and two three-car diesel trains to modernize and expand the region's train services.

Manufactured in Perth's Bellevue area, the C-Series train belongs to Alstom’s X’trapolis commuter train platform. It is noted for its energy-efficient technologies and capacity to accommodate 1,200 passengers, featuring three double passenger doors per car side to streamline boarding and alighting processes. Capable of reaching speeds up to 130 km/h, the train is designed with a 35-year service lifespan in mind and includes provisions for future technological upgrades.

The introduction of the C-Series train into passenger service follows comprehensive testing and validation phases, ensuring its readiness and reliability for the Perth rail network. Alstom's local manufacturing efforts have achieved a 50% local content goal, drawing on the skills and materials of over 15 Western Australian businesses. This includes a pre-employment partnership with North Metropolitan TAFE, aiming to provide rail manufacturing experience to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths, some of whom have joined Alstom as apprentices.
