ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has introduced a new intermodal rail service connecting Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Port of Rijeka in Croatia.
The new rail link connects Tuzla, one of the country’s main industrial centres, with Rijeka, a port serving trade flows across Southern, Central and South-Eastern Europe. Through this connection, RCG is providing rail-based access to international maritime routes for shippers in the region.
Tuzla plays a central role in the Bosnian economy, with activities concentrated in energy production, chemicals, mining and manufacturing. These sectors generate large freight volumes and rely on regular transport links for both raw materials and finished products. The new intermodal service is intended to support these requirements by offering scheduled rail capacity for containerised cargo.
The TransFER Tuzla–Rijeka operates as a weekly round trip with a capacity of up to 76 TEU per train. In addition to the rail leg, the service includes port-to-door transport options, allowing containers to be delivered directly from the Port of Rijeka to customer locations. Volume consolidation is also offered to improve train utilisation and manage transport costs.
RCG has stated that standardised operational processes are part of the service concept, with the aim of reducing administrative workload for customers. The connection is positioned as a regular and predictable transport option for companies seeking access to overseas markets through the Adriatic port system.
With the launch of the Tuzla–Rijeka route, RCG is expanding its intermodal network in South-Eastern Europe, adding Bosnia and Herzegovina to its portfolio of regular rail connections linked to maritime gateways.
