Kazakhstan's KTZ network has reported an increase in cargo turnover for the first four months of 2023, with operational cargo turnover increasing by 9.6% year-on-year to 89.4 billion net tonne-kilometres.

The network transported 82.4 million tonnes of goods during the period, with 52.8 million tonnes transported domestically and 29.6 million tonnes exported. Hard coal, grain, oil, construction cargo and chemical fertiliser were among the top commodities transported during the period.

Hard coal was one of the most important goods transported in this period, with 36.7 million tonnes. Of this, Kazakhstani consumers received 26 million tonnes of solid fuel, while 10.7 million tonnes were exported. The volume of grain transported also increased by 16.3% to around 4 million tonnes. Grain exports rose by 16% to 3.2 million tonnes, while the transport of milled products increased by 20.4% to 1.2 million tonnes.

In addition, the transport of oil products increased by 3.3% to 6 million tonnes. The transport of construction goods also increased by 9.6% to 4 million tonnes, while the transport of chemical fertilisers increased by 10% to 1.5 million tonnes.

The KTZ network is one of the largest railway operators in Central Asia and plays a crucial role in the transport of goods in the region.
