Following three years of work focused on infrastructure adaptations and yard expansions, the operation of 135-car trains at Rumo has started

The project included an investment of R$350 million, which is approximately EUR 61 million. Rumo trains are now running in the North Operation corridor, transporting bulk commodities including soybeans, soybean meal, and corn.

The rollout of longer trains is part of a staged process. Operations initially used 80-car trains in 2018, which later expanded to 120 cars by 2022, and now to 135-car configurations in 2025.

Over 675 train drivers have been trained and are currently operating the 135-car trains. According to the provided data, the transition is linked to a reported 9% increase in useful tons transported per train and a one-hour reduction in transit time compared to previous configurations.

The operation of the new train configurations is also associated with a reported 1.8% reduction in diesel consumption per train. In addition, the operator reports a cost reduction of R$240 million, approximately EUR 42 million, in locomotive acquisitions by maximising the use of existing assets.
