According to a statement by International Container Terminals Services, Inc. (ICTSI) this Thursday, Maersk's rail service has been running from May, up to twice a week.
Adriatic Gate CEO Emmanuel Papagiannakis highlighted that the Czech market is one of the most important European markets with a significant manufacturing hub and consumer market.
“Currently, there are multiple regular weekly block trains between Rijeka, Serbia, Bosnia and Hungary with extensions for Slovakia. We appreciate that Maersk has launched this initiative adding direct rail services to Czechia. This also confirms the growing significance of AGCT as a gateway for Central Europe and Southeast Europe,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis.
The rail service is operated by ČD Cargo Adria, a subsidiary of Czech freight operator ČD Cargo, the largest railway transport provider in the Czech Republic and one of the major rail operators on the Trans-European Network corridor including Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Poland and now expanding in Croatia.
Adriatic Gate j.s.c. was founded in 2001 as a subsidiary company of Luka Rijeka dd. International Container Terminal Services Inc. ( ICTSI ) entered the ownership structure in 2011 as a strategic partner with a concession for 30 years, ie until the year 2041. Currently, Luka Rijeka holds 49% of the shares of the Adriatic Gate while ICTSI holds 51% of the shares.
